baking up a storm

Eric's Birthday is tomorrow!

For his birthday celebration (tonight with friends) I decided to make Spinach & Zucchini Lasagna modified from Cooks Illustrated The Best Make-Ahead Recipe (more to come on that later), salad and garlic bread. Jessie is making a Chocolate Guinness Cake with Cream Cheese Icing. (Doesn't it look awesome! I can't wait to taste it!)

So, yesterday afternoon I went to the grocery and bought the 25 lb. bag of all-purpose and we got to work. Eric was making us pizza dough for last night and assembling the lasagna. I made two batches of French Bread (2 big loafs for tonight and 8 mini loafs for this week and next).

I also have been debating on whether I want to spend money on sandwich bread...if I can make it for significantly cheaper. So, knowing someone who makes whole wheat sandwich bread on a regular basis, we followed her recipe. I'd say it was a success.

  2. Me again. I made the bread. DELICIOUS!

It has almost a sour taste, in a good way. I am not sure if you got that, too? I also didn't have another bread pan so i made one HUGE loaf. So yummy. A total keeper.
